Iranian judicial official: There is "no difference" between Iranian and non-Iranian citizens for compensation regarding Ukrainian flight

Shokrollah Bahrami, head of the Armed Forces Judicial Organization, says there is no difference between Iranian and non-Iranian citizens when it comes to paying compensation for the downing of the Ukrainian plane.

He also claimed that the families of more than 130 of those who died in the incident of the IRGC firing missiles at the Ukrainian plane "have been covered by the Martyr Foundation."

On Tuesday, July 6, Shukrollah Bahrami, head of the Armed Forces Judicial Organization, stated that "a 200-page file with 10 defendants" had been compiled in this regard, and said that the investigation into the case, "without any exaggeration or exaggeration," was "undoubtedly unique."

According to IRNA, Bahrami said, "A sum of $150,000 was provided for compensation and damages for each deceased person, and the compensation for the deceased and the damages to their properties are being paid by the government, and there is no difference between Iranian and non-Iranian citizens."

Previously, the families of the victims have emphasized the transparent and fair trial of those responsible for firing missiles at the plane and have protested the non-transparent actions of the Iranian authorities.

Ukraine's foreign minister also said last year that his country would do everything it could to maximize compensation for the Ukrainian flight. He said negotiations with Iran would not be easy.

Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was shot down by two missiles fired by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on January 8, 2019, killing 176 people on board, including dozens of Iranians living in Canada.

On July 23, the Canadian news network CBC reported that the results of the eight-month investigation by the Canadian government into the downing of the Ukrainian plane show that the country has not found evidence that the act was “premeditated.” However, the published report of the results of the investigation emphasizes that this in no way absolves Iran of “responsibility for the deaths of 176 innocent people.”

Hamed Esmailiyon, a spokesman for the Association of Families of Flight 752 Victims, who lost his daughter and wife in the plane crash, had previously said: "We Iranian-Canadians say that these organizations and governments do not know the Islamic Republic government as we do. No one knows that government better than we, who have borne the yoke of this tyrant for 42 years. We are the ones who know that they are capable of any crime."

In mid-June of this year, the International Coordination and Response Group for the Victims of the Ukrainian Flight, including representatives from Canada, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, whose citizens were killed when Ukrainian Airlines Flight 752 was shot down by the Revolutionary Guards, issued a joint statement protesting the Islamic Republic of Iran's "violation of international law."

Last April, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry issued a statement accusing the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran of "manipulating reality" and creating "anger and despair" on the Ukrainian side.
