Pompeo: Zarif and Rouhani are showcases for corrupt religious mafia; Khamenei is the final decision-maker

On Monday evening, March 26, US time, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wrote on Twitter in response to news of the resignation of Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic: "We are paying attention to the news of Zarif's resignation. We will see if it holds up or not. In any case, Zarif and Hassan Rouhani are just the fronts of the corrupt religious mafia. We know that it is Khamenei who makes the final decisions."
The US Secretary of State wrote: “Our policy has not changed – the regime must act like a normal country and respect its people.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif resigned on Monday, March 26, in a post on his Instagram page. Despite official confirmation of his resignation, Mahmoud Vaezi, chief of staff to Hassan Rouhani, wrote on Twitter that the Iranian president had not accepted his resignation.
Mohammad Javad Zarif, who was in the position of Foreign Minister, was trying to show the world a new face of Hassan Rouhani's government and the Islamic Republic, and was known among some Western politicians as a "moderate." However, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently said in Warsaw: "Some say this gentleman is moderate, but when someone accuses America and Israel of committing murder, he is no longer moderate. These are signs that Mr. Zarif and Mr. Rouhani are as revolutionary as the other leaders of the Islamic Republic."
