Nazanin Zaghari released after 30 months in prison

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British citizen of Iranian descent who had been imprisoned since Nowruz 2016, was granted leave for three days on Thursday, September 2.

Ms. Zaghari, who traveled to Iran to visit her family thirty months ago, in Nowruz 2016, was arrested by the IRGC on security charges and sentenced to five years in prison in court.

The Revolutionary Guards had accused her of crimes against national security and journalism training. However, Ms. Zaghari denied the charges, and the Reuters Foundation officially announced that Ms. Zaghari had been a simple employee in the foundation's administrative department.

On Wednesday, the husband of Nazanin Zaghari, a British citizen of Iranian descent who has been sentenced to five years in prison in Iran, announced that the British government has not yet taken steps to grant diplomatic protection to Ms. Zaghari.

It has been said that if diplomatic protection is given to an individual, the issue moves beyond a national issue and becomes an issue between two countries that can affect relations between the two countries.
