Joe Biden warns of growing anti-Semitism in America

US President Joe Biden warned about the spread of anti-Semitism in the United States, including on American universities.

Joe Biden discussed Jewish security, Zionism, freedom and support for Israel in a speech commemorating the 6 million Jews killed in the Holocaust. His speech, delivered at the annual Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, warned against forgetting the reality of the systematic killing of Jews during World War II.

Joe Biden said in his remarks: "The truth is that there is a danger that people will no longer know the truth." Referring to the famous Jewish slogan "It will never happen again," he said: "What this slogan means to me is that such an event will never be forgotten, and that also means that we must continue to explain this event and not stop conveying the truth to the people."

Referring to the Hamas extremist group's attack on Israel, the start of the war, and the passage of more than 7 months into the war, the US President described the killing of 1,200 people in the war as the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust. He added in his speech: "This hatred of Jews still resides deep in the hearts of many people around the world, and this requires us to be vigilant and clear-headed. It's not 75 years now, it's only seven and a half months, and people are forgetting that Hamas started this horror. I haven't forgotten, neither have you, and we won't forget."

In his speech, Joe Biden, while giving Americans the right to protest, said: "We know that victimizing and demonizing any minority is a threat to that minority. Anti-Semitism, hate speech, and threats of violence of any kind have no place on any American university."

The protests that Joe Biden referred to have taken place on college campuses as a flashpoint in American political controversy, starting in New York and Columbia University and quickly spreading across the United States. Many have accused the protests of being anti-Semitic, but students and other protesters have denied the accusations and have called on universities to cut off financial ties with Israel and work for a ceasefire in the Gaza war.
