Journalist Vida Rabbani arrested in Iran for the second time in a year

Reports indicate that journalist Vida Rabbani was arrested by security forces on Monday, December 25.

Political activists and some journalists have spread the news on social media. Among them, political activist Zia Nabavi, who posted on her Twitter page the news of Vida Rabbani's arrest, wrote: "She was also arrested last year after the protests against the downing of the Ukrainian plane."

The social media outlets that published the news wrote that there is still no information about the reasons for the arrest of this journalist, who has worked with the weekly "Sada", but the news received indicates that he has been transferred to Evin.

The arrest of this journalist comes at a time when the Islamic Republic has repeatedly had security clashes with activists and journalists. One such example is the confirmation of the three-year sentence of Keyvan Samimi, journalist and editor of Iran Farda magazine, by the Court of Appeals.

جمهوری اسلامی ایران در رده‌بندی جهانی آزادی رسانه‌ها ۲۰۱۹ گزارشگران بدون مرز از میان ١٨٠ کشور جهان در رده ۱۷۰ قرار دارد.

The US State Department has also previously published material titled "Forty Years of Unfulfilled Promises" by the Islamic Republic on its Persian Twitter account, writing about corruption, lack of freedom of expression, lack of justice, and unfulfilled economic promises by Islamic Republic officials.

The US State Department wrote in these tweets: "Forty years ago, Ayatollah Khomeini promised freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Today, Iran has one of the most repressed media environments. The ruling regime has only failed for forty years."
