Queen Farah Pahlavi's message following the death of the "Blue Girl": Her death symbolized the burning of the dreams of half of Iran's population

In a message reacting to the death of a girl who set herself on fire after being sentenced to enter the stadium, Queen Farah Pahlavi said: "The death of the blue girl symbolizes the burning of the dreams of half of the population of our ancient homeland, Iran, who have been fighting for 40 years to obtain their minimum rights, and how bravely they have stood."

Queen Farah Pahlavi, while offering her condolences to Sahar Khodayari's family, added: "It is unimaginable and very terrible that in the 21st century in Iran, a young girl would lose her life because of entering a stadium. Women who, not so long ago, freely participated in stadiums shoulder to shoulder with men to watch games."

Sahar Khodayari, a fan of the Tehran Esteghlal team who was arrested months ago while trying to enter the stadium to watch football, recently set himself on fire in front of a judicial unit in Tehran after learning that he might be sentenced to prison.
