Saudi consulate car discovered in Istanbul garage

Turkish police believe a car parked in a garage in Istanbul may be a clue to the truth about the killing of a Saudi journalist in the Saudi consulate. The head of the US CIA also traveled to Turkey to investigate Khashoggi's death.

On Tuesday morning, October 23, Turkish police announced that they had received permission to search a car belonging to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, after a delay of about 24 hours. The car was discovered in a garage in Istanbul on Monday morning, but the Saudi mission did not allow it to be searched.

Turkish police believe the car may be important in finding the truth about the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

According to Turkish officials, Khashoggi was killed on October 2nd in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Saudi Arabia says the journalist, who was critical of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, died during a clash with officers at the consulate.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to reveal the "naked truths" related to the case of Jamal Khashoggi's murder on Tuesday.

CIA Director's visit to Türkiye

According to the Washington Post, Gina Haspel, Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), traveled to Türkiye on Monday.

The Washington Post wrote that Haspel's trip was to assess information released by the Turkish government regarding the murder of the Saudi journalist.

According to the newspaper's report, US intelligence officials are skeptical of the Saudi government's account of the critical journalist's death.

“Preventing Iranian influence from being contained”

Almost simultaneously with Haspel's trip to Istanbul, US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin also traveled to Saudi Arabia and met and held talks with Mohammed bin Salman.

The two politicians met behind closed doors. Saudi media reported that Mnuchin and the Saudi crown prince stressed the “importance of strategic cooperation” between the two countries.
