Child marriage: 4 marriages of a girl by the age of 16

A mother went to the police and demanded action against her daughter. She stated that the reason for this request was that her 16-year-old daughter had been visiting "places of corruption." In describing her situation, the mother revealed that, due to poverty and addiction, she had repeatedly married her daughter to multiple men since the age of 12.
According to HRANA News Agency, citing Rokna, a mother approached the police and requested the arrest of her daughter for visiting "places of corruption." She described her request as a way to prevent her daughter from getting married.
According to this mother, who lives in Mashhad, her daughter has been officially married three times since the age of 12 due to her family's poverty and addiction, and now, at the age of 16, she plans to marry for the fourth time.
The identity of this 16-year-old girl has been revealed.
According to the report, Nazanin's mother said: "Due to economic conditions, we were forced to leave our city and came to Mashhad. After Nazanin's father could not find a suitable job, he turned to peddling and after a while he turned to addiction. The economic conditions were bad and I was forced to marry my 12-year-old daughter off and stop her from continuing her education: although this was a common practice in our family.
My daughter's life did not last more than three months due to her husband's addiction and she divorced him. My husband's poor financial situation, addiction, and my efforts to manage and pay for life reduced my attention to my daughter, and through a street love affair, Nazanin married for the second time, which also did not last, and a divorce stamp was placed on her identity card for the second time.
He continued: “Nazanin married a married man for the third time, and after the first wife found out and put pressure on my daughter, he divorced her husband for the third time. Now Nazanin, in her sixteenth year of life, wants to marry him after meeting a boy who frequents places of corruption in the city. He is not willing to adopt a correct lifestyle, and most importantly, I am afraid that he will take my seven-year-old daughter with him. However, I intend to pull him out of this quagmire, but I do not want him to go to prison.”
In Iran, in recent years, many families have resorted to early marriage of their children to reduce their economic and financial costs.
According to the statistics of the Civil Registry and the Center for Civil Registration of Iran, in the fall of 1400, 11,235 marriages of children under the age of 15 were registered. On the other hand, based on government incentives, including the payment of facilities such as marriage loans, the number of early marriages of children by families is increasing every day.
The physical and psychological harms resulting from child marriage inflict irreparable damage on the lives of these children. These include pregnancies under the age of 18, maternal mortality, depression, suicide attempts, divorce, failure to complete education, and the perpetuation of the cycle of cultural and economic poverty.
