Malihe Nazari and Joseph Shahbazian, Christian Citizens Transferred to Evin Prison

Hrana News Agency – Malihe Nazari, a Christian citizen, was transferred to Evin Prison on Tuesday, the 8th of Shahrivar, to serve her sentence. Additionally, Joseph Shahbazian, another Christian citizen, was arrested today, Thursday, the 17th of Shahrivar, following his referral to the Evin Prosecutor’s Office and transferred to Evin Prison. Previously, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court had sentenced Ms. Nazari to 6 years of imprisonment and Mr. Shahbazian to 10 years of imprisonment along with certain social deprivations.
According to a report by Hrana News Agency, citing Mohabbat News, on Tuesday, the 8th of Shahrivar 1401, Malihe Nazari, a Christian citizen, was transferred to Evin Prison to serve her sentence.
Joseph Shahbazian, another Christian citizen, was arrested today, Thursday, the 17th of Shahrivar, following his referral to the Evin Prosecutor’s Office and transferred to Evin Prison. According to this report, Mr. Shahbazian’s arrest took place despite his poor physical health condition.
Malihe Nazari and Joseph Shahbazian, along with five other Christian citizens, were sentenced on the 8th of Khordad 1401 by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges including “forming an unauthorized group with the aim of undermining national security, acting against national security through promoting evangelical Christianity and establishing house churches” to 6 years and 10 years of imprisonment respectively, deprivation of social rights, travel ban, prohibition from membership in organizations and groups, and exile. This verdict was communicated on the 17th of Khordad of this year to Iman Soleimani, the defense attorney for several of these citizens.
In Mordad of this year, Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeals upheld Joseph Shahbazian’s conviction in full.
Malihe Nazari, a Christian citizen, was previously arrested on the 10th of Tir 1399 by security forces at her home in Tehran and was transferred on the 1st of Mordad from Evin Prison to Qarchak Varamin Prison due to her inability to pay bail. Joseph Shahbazian, a 57-year-old Armenian-descent Christian citizen, was arrested in Tir 1399 along with several other Christian citizens during a religious ceremony in the Yaft Abad area of Tehran.
