Medical Leave for Imprisoned Environmental Activist Taher Qadiryan ‘Being Refused’

The Hrana news agency, citing its sources, reports that Taher Qadiryan, an imprisoned environmental activist, requires medical leave and specialized medical care due to illness.

Hrana, a news outlet of the Iranian Human Rights Activists Network, writes that prison officials are refusing to grant Mr. Qadiryan medical leave.

A source close to Taher Qadiryan’s family told the news agency that this environmental activist is suffering from thyroid problems and has experienced severe weight loss.

Several environmental activists have also written in recent hours on social media about the necessity of granting therapeutic leave to Taher Qadiryan.

Taher Qadiryan, along with a group of environmental activists, has been in prison for approximately five years. He faces an eight-year sentence on the charge of “cooperating with the U.S. government.”
