Imam Friday of Rask Confirms ‘Horrific’ Assault by Chabahar Police Commander on 15-Year-Old Girl

Abdolghaffar Naqshbandi, interim Imam Friday of Rask in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, released a statement confirming that a police force commander assaulted a 15-year-old Baluch girl.

In Naqshbandi’s statement, it is written: “For several days, a dreadful and heartbreaking tragedy has been circulating in cyberspace, until after investigation, review, and conversation with the family itself and hearing the words of the young girl, the hidden aspects of this unforgivable crime have become clear to me.”

Local sources in Sistan and Baluchestan, including Baluch activist campaigns, have reported that Colonel Ibrahim Kuchekzai, commander of the law enforcement force in Chabahar, on the 10th of Shahrivar 1401 (September 1, 2022), under the pretext of interrogating this girl from the city of Dashtiari in Chabahar’s jurisdiction, took her to his rest room at his workplace and assaulted her.

Almost a month after this news was released, no official Islamic Republic authority has reacted to it.

The interim Imam Friday of Rask, referring to “the deadly silence that exists” regarding this news, emphasized: “Violation of the honor and chastity of my Muslim Baluch sister is not forgivable or excusable.”

He also called on the Islamic Republic’s judiciary to “as quickly as possible bring this assaulting officer to account for his shameful actions” and “try and punish this corrupting criminal in public.”

However, the Baluch Activists Campaign announced on Monday, the 4th of Mehr, that after the assault was confirmed, security agencies placed this family under house arrest after they had gone to Zahedan to pursue their complaint.

According to this report, the family has also been pressured to cause the interim Imam Friday of Rask to retract his statement.

This is while, according to Baluch sources, previously the Islamic Republic’s intelligence agencies had pressured this family to withdraw their complaint by subjecting them to pressure.

Also, according to the Baluch Activists Campaign, both the Revolutionary Guards Intelligence Organization and the Ministry of Intelligence visited Maulawi Fathi Mohammad, the father of Abdolghaffar Naqshbandi, on Monday and demanded that he retract his son’s statement.

Islamic Republic security officials had arrested this father and son in previous years on security charges.

Habibolah Sarbazi, a Baluch political activist, told the Baluch Activists Campaign: “When security forces arrested this father and son without any judicial justification and forced the son under excruciating torture to make a video against his father.”

He added: “Security agencies believe that they can once again achieve their illegitimate demands through pressures and torture.”

The confirmation of a law enforcement commander’s assault on a Baluch girl occurred amid nationwide protests over the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman from Sanandaj.
