Lawyer of Narges Mohammadi: Female prisoners in Qarchak prison threatened and lack security

Narges Mohammadi’s lawyer, a jailed human rights activist, reported on Tuesday, June 10, about “threats to the lives” of political prisoners in Qarchak women’s prison, including his client and Aliyeh Motallebzadeh.
Mostafa Neili, in an interview with the “Emtedad” website, reported among other things the sending of a threatening message by one of the prisoners with a murder case file to Narges Mohammadi and Aliyeh Motallebzadeh, and stated: In this message, this prisoner told these two political prisoners: “I will kill you and become famous by doing so.”
Referring to the fact that this ordinary prisoner had “no previous problem or dispute” with Mohammadi and Motallebzadeh, he said that threatening political prisoners by ordinary prisoners without “any history of discussion and conflict” appears “suspicious.”
As Mr. Neili stated, attempts to create altercations by several ordinary prisoners when Narges Mohammadi visited a specialist doctor in the prison, as well as “gathering, cursing and threats” by a number of other ordinary prisoners in front of the political prisoners’ ward in recent days are among the threats to the lives of these prisoners.
He mentioned that the closing of a door prevented them from entering the political prisoners’ ward, and recalled the occurrence of similar incidents in previous years against a number of political prisoners including attacks on Golrokh Iraei and Atena Daemi and beatings of Shakila Manfard and Saba Kordafshiri.
Last year in Esfand, Yasaman Aryani, a jailed civil activist, was beaten by a number of public crime inmates in Karaj’s Kachouei prison.
Mr. Neili, in another section of his interview, referring to the disruption of “the physical and mental security of political prisoners in Qarchak prison,” said the “environment for political prisoners in this prison has become dangerous” and “prison authorities have not yet taken urgent measures to maintain security.”
He said he has notified the Evin Prosecutor’s Office’s enforcement of sentences and the oversight department for political, ideological and security prisoners, and “they have also promised to follow up, but I have not yet received a response from them.”
This lawyer has also identified the “main reason” for the occurrence of these incidents as “non-compliance with the law and the exile of political prisoners” to Qarchak.
Three years ago, as well, the neglect of responsible officials regarding the security of political prisoners in Tehran’s Bozorg prison led to Alireza Shirmohammadali, after being threatened several times, being beaten by two prisoners and murdered.
