Sohila Hejab, Political Prisoner: Today’s Young Generation, Like the Generation of ’57, Is Not Looking to See a Face in the Moon

Sohila Hejab, a jurist and political prisoner, in a message sent from Kermanshah Prison, describes the Islamic Republic as “a bankrupt and collapsing system” and believes that “today is the era of the people’s will taking control of the people’s destiny through a new constitution.”

Conciding with the approach of the anniversary of the Revolution of ’57 and the beginning of government ceremonies commemorating it, a copy of an audio message from Sohila Hejab has reached Voice of America, which also contains references to the generation of revolutionaries of that period and the claims of Ayatollah Khomeini.

Ms. Hejab states in this audio file: “You, the noble people of Iran, possess all the conditions for forming a democratic revolution in the country. Everything is ready. All that strong power for change is in the hands of the people’s will. The Islamic Republic system and its constitution lack any fundamental and legal legitimacy. Those who by any means and excuse are seeking the survival of this bankrupt and collapsing system are considered complicit in all the crimes of this regime.”

Stating that “this system cannot be otherwise,” she emphasizes: “This system is not willing to withdraw from reactionary relations, to stop sending weapons to terrorists, to stop logistical support and financing for Yemen, Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Syria and others. It will not stop supporting terrorism.”

This jurist believes: “Today is the era of the people’s will taking control of the people’s destiny through a new constitution. Today’s young generation is very aware and, like the generation of ’57, is not looking to see a face in the moon. It is not looking for a charismatic figure to whom it would entrust its will.”

Sohila Hejab, who is now exiled to Kermanshah Prison, had previously announced in an audio message from Qarchak Prison that she has “no fear” of the Islamic Republic and had chanted the slogans “Death to Khamenei” and “Death to the Dictator.”
