Ali Ajemi, Iranian Human Rights Activist, Dies in America

Ali Ajemi, an Iranian human rights activist, has died in America. He was 37 years old.

According to reports published on social media, Mr. Ajemi’s body was found on the morning of Wednesday, May 7, in a lake in Houston, Texas, United States.

The cause of his death has not yet been announced.

Mr. Ajemi, who was a law student, was arrested in November 2009 by security forces at his father’s house in a village near Sabzevar.

He was the editor of a student magazine. After his arrest, he was charged with propaganda and conspiracy against the system and actions against national security, which resulted in a two-year prison sentence.

He left Iran some time after completing his prison sentence. Mr. Ajemi, who was 37 years old at the time of his death, had been active in the field of human rights in recent years and collaborated with media outlets such as Hrana News Agency.
