133 More Patients Die as Coronavirus Continues to Claim Lives in Iran

With the death of 133 more patients in the past 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus victims in Iran reached 3,872 according to official statistics.

Iranian Health Ministry spokesperson Kianosh Jahanpour announced this news on Tuesday, April 9.

He also reported the identification of 2,089 new patients during this period. As a result, the total number of coronavirus patients in Iran according to Health Ministry statistics has reached 62,588 people.

Mr. Jahanpour also stated that out of the total number of coronavirus patients, 27,039 people have recovered so far.

The Iranian Health Ministry has previously explained that its statistics are based on official criteria and final test results from individuals, and does not include people who have had or have clinical symptoms in its count.

Based on statistics collected by Radio Farda from scattered statements by local officials and Health Ministry sources, by April 17, 94,956 people have been hospitalized or placed under observation due to having coronavirus clinical symptoms in 31 provinces of Iran.

This statistic also shows that 6,872 people have died in 31 provinces of Iran.

Radio Farda’s statistics on people hospitalized or under observation in Iran’s provinces are based on statements from local health officials and reports published in Iranian news agencies. This statistic also takes into account people who have had clinical symptoms.

The statistics collected by Radio Farda are also minimal figures, and the number of victims could be higher than this amount.

Iran’s Health Minister, in a session of the Islamic Consultative Assembly on April 9, emphasized that we have not yet reached the stage of “containment and control” of the coronavirus in Iran, and warned that “we should not fall prey to statistical illusions.”

In this session, he also promised that “in the coming days, we will reach the containment stage in some provinces, and I hope that by the end of Ordibehesht month we will reach a better point.”
