Hepco Arak Workers’ Protests Continue for Third Consecutive Day

Workers at Hepco company in Arak gathered for a third consecutive day of protests in front of the Central Province Governorate.

A group of Hepco workers who began their protests three days ago in opposition to their outstanding claims and unpaid wages gathered again on Monday, the fourth of Shahrivar in front of the Central Province Governorate in Arak.

Hepco workers have been demanding attention to their grievances for some time. These workers also marched and gathered in front of the Arak representatives’ office in parliament the previous day, demanding that their problems be addressed.

Labor protests in Iran have increased following currency fluctuations and rising economic difficulties, and Islamic Republic officials have recently acknowledged growing public discontent. However, Iranian authorities have responded to workers’ protests with security and judicial measures, and human rights organizations have repeatedly expressed concern about the suppression of protesters and workers in Iran.

The United States has repeatedly condemned Iran’s security crackdown on workers. The U.S. State Department said in a statement that the Islamic Republic regime, with the money it has spent in Syria, could have paid workers’ wages in Iran.
