Iranian Christian Liberty Party Condemns Reuters Report on Prince Reza Pahlavi and Demands Accountability from News Agency
The Iranian Christian Liberty Party (AMA) issued a statement condemning a recent Reuters report about an interview with Prince Reza Pahlavi, describing it as biased and contrary to professional journalistic standards. The party believes that Reuters, instead of addressing Iran’s major issues, posed leading questions and published a report with a critical approach, presenting a distorted image of the Prince’s political activities. The party has demanded that Reuters management be held accountable for this approach.
The publication of Reuters’ exclusive report and interview with Prince Reza Pahlavi has sparked reactions among various Iranian political groups and activists. Reuters, which conducted a 75-minute interview with Prince Reza Pahlavi in Paris, simultaneously published an analytical report titled “Regime Change? A Look at Reza Pahlavi’s Faltering Efforts to Lead Iran,” which addressed the challenges he faces in building consensus among opponents of the Islamic Republic and securing political support.
Following the publication of this report, the Iranian Christian Liberty Party (AMA) issued a statement criticizing Reuters’ performance and considered it contrary to recognized principles of journalism.
In this statement, it is noted that international media outlets are obligated, based on journalistic ethical charters, to observe “impartiality, integrity, and respect for truth.” However, according to this party, Reuters’ recent actions in the interview with Prince Reza Pahlavi and the subsequent published report represent a clear deviation from these fundamental principles and constitute a fall into the trap of commissioned attacks.
The AMA party has also claimed that instead of addressing major topics and Iran’s political developments, the interview included personal and leading questions that had been answered multiple times before, with the aim of damaging Prince Reza Pahlavi’s political image.
In another section of this statement, the Reuters report’s headline was also criticized, stating: “This report, with clear bad faith, disregarded Prince Reza Pahlavi’s record, international efforts, and fruitful political activities in guiding and accompanying Iran’s people’s struggles, presenting a distorted and inverted image.”
The AMA party also found the timing of this report’s publication significant, claiming that this action was carried out with the intention of downplaying the impact of Prince Reza Pahlavi’s recent appeals and reducing their influence on public opinion.
At the end, this party has called on Reuters’ management and editorial board to be accountable for what it termed a “destructive and unprofessional approach,” refrain from becoming a tool for psychological operations against Iran’s national uprising, and observe the principle of impartiality in news coverage.
