Latest statistics on child marriage in Iran: More than 146,000 marriages in 2018
According to statistics from the Civil Registration Organization in 2018, 324 marriages were registered for boys under the age of 15 and 13,054 for girls under the age of 13. Also, 133,086 marriages were registered for girls between the ages of 14 and 18. But another important point is the number of 11,535 divorces between the ages of 14 and 18, which involved children of the spouses.
A social worker says regarding child marriage: "According to gynecologists, pregnancy is extremely harmful for girls under 18 and can lead to serious harm and even death for young mothers. These girls are harmed both physically and psychologically and emotionally; while they are deprived of education and cannot raise good children for society."
