US: Iranian missile attacks in Syria endanger forces fighting ISIS

In response to Iran's recent missile attack on Syria, a US State Department official told the Persian service of Voice of America, "We are aware of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps' announcement that it has launched ballistic missiles into Syria in response to the attacks that occurred in Ahvaz last week."

The US State Department official said, "We can confirm that the Iranian missile attack on eastern Syria targeted areas controlled by ISIS, and given the natural complexities of the battlefield, such attacks would endanger forces actively fighting ISIS in Syria."

He continued by stating that, as we have said before, the continued development of Iran's ballistic missile program and (Tehran's) support for terrorism is provocative and undermines security, prosperity, and stability throughout the region, adding that there are issues in this regard that we are closely monitoring.

The State Department official, who did not want to be identified, continued to respond to a question from Voice of America, noting that UN Security Council Resolution 2231 requires Iran to refrain from any activity related to the design of ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

He added that we will continue to use all the tools at our disposal to counter the threats of the Iranian regime.

Two weeks after an armed attack on a military parade in the southern city of Ahvaz, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced on Monday that it had launched a missile attack on the base of the ISIS perpetrators in response to the "ISIS attack."
