The Afghan army has asked the people of the 200,000-person city of Lashkar Gah to evacuate the city.

A senior Afghan military commander has urged residents of the city of Lashkar Gah, which has recently been besieged by the Taliban, to evacuate the city.
Over the past three days, fierce fighting has been ongoing between the Taliban and government forces in the city, and reports indicate that government offices and military bases in the city have been besieged by Taliban militants.
Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday, August 3, that General Sami Sadat, commander of the 215th Army of "Maiwand" in Afghanistan, has asked people to leave the city immediately.
The report says the Afghan army is preparing a decisive attack on Taliban forces in the city.
He has told the 200,000 residents of the city of Lashkar Gah, located in the south of the country, to leave the city as quickly as possible until the army's anti-Taliban operation begins.
He said he knows it is difficult for residents of this city to leave their homes, but if people leave the city for a few days, they will clear the Taliban from the area.
According to him, the Afghan army "does not want to leave even one Taliban fighter alive."
