Amnesty International protests torture of detainees in Iran

Amnesty International has condemned the inhumane treatment of political prisoners in Iran. According to the human rights organization, thousands of people were arrested after the January 2009 protests, and the way they were treated is contrary to the law and human justice.
Research by the human rights organization Amnesty International shows that since the suppression of protests in the winter of last year (January 2017), thousands of people have been arrested in Iran, tortured in prisons, and sentenced to severe punishments.
Amnesty International has said in a new report that Iran's judicial authorities do not even respect the Islamic Republic's codified laws. Law enforcement and security officials, with the approval of judicial officials, trample on the rights of prisoners in the most brutal manner.
It is said that during the suppression of the protests, around seven thousand men, women and children were arrested within a few days. The officers even arrested children and the wounded who were hospitalized and took them to the dungeon.
According to reports received by this human rights organization, prisoners are put under extreme pressure to “confess” to crimes they did not commit. Based on these “confessions,” they are sentenced to long prison terms and even death. They are denied the right to defend themselves freely and to choose a lawyer.
Unbelievable violence and cruelty
According to Amnesty International, videos have been obtained from the days of protests in Iran that clearly show officers directly targeting ordinary, unarmed people.
According to Diana Al-Tahawi, the organization's deputy director for Middle East affairs, the aforementioned images have shocked and astounded the world.
Ms. Tahawi says that without a doubt, even in the privacy of the prison and away from public view, the Islamic Republic's agents treated the detainees with incredible cruelty and brutality.
Amnesty International has called on the international community to pay greater attention to the appalling human rights situation in Iran.
All UN member states have been called upon to demand the release of political prisoners from the Iranian regime, as these individuals have committed no "crimes" other than exercising their rights to freedom of expression and assembly.
