Hunger strike of Eskandar Lotfi, imprisoned teacher union rights activist

According to reports, imprisoned teacher rights activist Eskandar Lotfi has gone on a hunger strike.

According to teachers' unions, the reason for Mr. Lotfi's hunger strike is the pressure exerted by interrogators on him to extract a forced confession, as well as the illegal continuation of his detention.

According to the report, Eskandar Lotfi announced in a phone call to his family on Monday that he had begun his hunger strike. After that, his phone call was disconnected.

This teachers' union activist, who was arrested on May 1, is imprisoned in Sanandaj.

He has been arrested along with a number of other teachers' and workers' union activists on charges of meeting with two French union activists.

The Coordination Council of Iranian Teachers' Unions announced that the life of Eskandar Lotfi, the organization's spokesperson, is in danger, writing: "His illegal detention must end immediately."
