Execution of Ruhollah Zam postpones EU-Iran economic summit

The EU-Iran economic summit scheduled to take place in Tehran tomorrow has been canceled due to the execution of Ruhollah Zam. Patrick Wintour, diplomatic editor of the Guardian newspaper, who was scheduled to moderate a panel discussion at the summit, has also withdrawn.

The French Foreign Ministry announced that its ambassador to Tehran will not participate in the online economic summit between Europe and Iran, which was scheduled to be held in Tehran on Monday, December 14, with the presence of ambassadors from four European countries: France, Germany, Austria, and Italy.

The French Foreign Ministry also announced in a Twitter message that other ambassadors from European countries, including Germany, Austria, and Italy, would also refuse to attend the meeting.

The organizers of the meeting have announced that the meeting has been postponed after the cancellation of the Europe-Iran economic conference. Patrick Wintour, diplomatic editor of the Guardian newspaper, who was scheduled to moderate a roundtable discussion at the economic conference with the ambassadors of Germany, France, Austria and Italy, announced that he would not attend the meeting.

In a Twitter message, he announced the reason for his resignation as the "despicable" execution of Ruhollah Zam, a journalist opposed to the Islamic Republic's government.

The reason for the cancellation and then postponement of this economic forum of ambassadors of four European countries with Iran was the recent tensions in the relations of European countries with the Islamic Republic. The reason for this tension was the protest of European countries against the execution of Ruhollah Zam.

The French government called the execution of Ruhollah Zam “barbaric and unacceptable” on Saturday, December 12. The European Union condemned the execution, and a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry expressed “disgust” on behalf of the country’s government.

Following the reaction of European countries to the execution of Ruhollah Zam, the government of the Islamic Republic recalled the ambassadors of Germany and France.
