Amnesty International releases new report on the 1967 massacres

Amnesty International has stated in a report that the Islamic Republic is continuing to commit “crimes against humanity” by continuing to conceal the fate and burial locations of the victims of the 1967 massacre. The organization has called for an independent and comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Amnesty International has released a new report revealing the Islamic Republic of Iran's continued commission of "crimes against humanity."

The organization says in its report, “Blood-soaked Secrets: Why the Massacre of 67 Is an Ongoing Crime Against Humanity?” that the Islamic Republic is continuing to commit “crimes against humanity” by concealing the fate and burial locations of thousands of political opponents and dissidents that occurred three decades ago. The human rights organization released the report on December 4.

In this report, Amnesty International called on the United Nations to conduct an independent and thorough investigation into the enforced disappearances and executions of political prisoners that took place in the 1960s without going through the legal and judicial process.

Amnesty International and Justice for Iran, in a joint report, previously reported new evidence of the existence of more than 100 sites where four to five thousand political prisoners who were executed in 1988 are believed to be buried.

The evidence discovered includes satellite images, video footage, and photographs from Tabriz, Qorveh, Mashhad, Ahvaz, and other cities, showing that some places have been covered with rubble or bulldozed.

A new 200-page report by Amnesty International outlines the policies by which the Iranian government has attempted to conceal from the public the truth about what the organization calls the “systematic disappearances and executions of its opponents” over three decades.

The report also states that the crime of “enforced disappearance” of the victims continues, explaining this opinion as follows: “As long as the Islamic Republic does not provide information and transparency to the families and survivors about the fate and burial places of their loved ones, it will continue to commit “crimes against humanity.”

"Blood-Drenched Secrets" also provides a detailed account of the scale and geographical distribution of the 1967 massacre across the country, identifying at least 32 cities in different parts of Iran where it says the 1967 massacres took place.
