Countless Threats Against Ali Daei and His Family

Ali Daei, the former star of Iran’s national football team, reported last night (Sunday, November 27) on his Twitter account about threats against himself and his family.

Since the start of nationwide protests in Iran, Ali Daei has repeatedly declared his solidarity with the protesters and stood alongside them, an action that in one instance led to the confiscation of his passport. He has repeatedly reacted against the suppression of people by security forces, and on his personal Instagram and Twitter accounts has defended his fellow citizens and given voice to them as a public-minded athlete.

Last night, on his Twitter account and Instagram page, he reported countless threats against himself and his family from certain institutions, media outlets, and anonymous individuals. The content of the message published by Ali Daei is as follows:

علی دایی

“Greetings to the noble people of Iran. In hope of unconditional freedom for prisoners in these days. In these recent months and days, I have witnessed countless threats against myself and my family from certain institutions, media outlets, and anonymous individuals who claim to be professors, philosophers, and sociologists. By attributing false statements to some great figures, including ‘Ayatollah Bahjat,’ and misusing their names, they are trying to damage me. They quote him as having advised me not to be on social media. I don’t know where this came from. During his lifetime, social media in its current form did not exist at all. I learned humanity, honor, patriotism, and freedom from that great figure. What would be achieved by such demagogery and threats?”

The Islamic Republic government, in these final days of its life, uses every weapon against people to destroy, suppress, massacre, and silence them in order to preserve its rule; oblivious to the fact that the Iranian people have very strong unity and solidarity with each other and no longer fall for these lies, threats, and governmental scenarios. Rather, every day they appear on the streets with more motivation and strength than before to bring down this regime with their own hands and unity.
