Body found in Houston, Texas lake identified as Iranian human rights activist Ali Ajami

The body found last week in Lake McGovern in Houston, Texas, USA, belongs to Ali Ajami, an Iranian political and human rights activist.

According to the local ABC affiliate in Texas, a passerby found the body of the 37-year-old floating in the lake at 10 a.m. on May 6.

Police experts say it is unclear how long he had been in the water before that.

Ali Ajami was arrested by security agents in his father's house in Sabzevar in February 2009, while he was a law student and editor of a student publication.

He was then sentenced to 2 years in prison on charges of propaganda against the regime and acting against national security, and left Iran shortly after his release.

One of Ali Ajami's friends says, "All he wanted was a simple, peaceful, and orderly life for himself and all the people of the world, including the people of his own country (Iran)."
