Reports indicate that the 10-year prison sentence for Abbas Vahedian Shahroudi, a teacher and one of the signatories of the statement by 14 political and civil activists calling for the resignation of the Leader of the Islamic Republic, has been finalized.

The human rights website HRANA wrote that this verdict was final and was served on Abbas Vahedian Shahroudi while he was in custody due to his failure to appeal.

Abbas Vahedian Shahroudi was arrested on Wednesday, September 10, this year in the city of Bandar Anzali.

According to HRANA, this verdict against Abbas Vahedian Shahroudi was issued by Branch 4 of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court in connection with the 2019 case, on charges of forming a group with the intention of disrupting the country's security, in accordance with Article 498 of the Islamic Penal Code, and has become final due to Mr. Vahedian Shahroudi's failure to appeal.

Abbas Vahedian Shahroudi is among 14 civil and political activists inside Iran who, on June 12, 2019, published an open letter calling for Ali Khamenei to resign as leader of the Iranian government and for a fundamental change to the constitution. Most of the writers of these letters have been imprisoned and received severe judicial sentences.
