Eight-year prison sentence for Sina Omran, one of the detainees from the January 2017 protests in Iran, confirmed

The eight-year prison sentence of Sina Omran, a student at the University of Tehran and one of those arrested during the January 2017 protests, has been confirmed.

Arash Dowlatshahi, Sina Omran's lawyer, told Ensaf News that the eight-year prison sentence of this Tehran University student, "Eina," has been confirmed by the Court of Appeals.

According to Dolatshahi, the Ministry of Science and the University of Tehran have had "collaborations" regarding Sina Omran's case, and a request for a retrial for her is scheduled to be submitted to the Supreme Court.

Sina Darvish Omran, a graduate of the German language translation department at the University of Tehran, was arrested on January 29, 2017. She was tried in Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Salavati, and sentenced to eight years in prison, a two-year ban on leaving the country, a ban on political activity, and a ban on being on social media.

During the protests in more than 100 cities in Iran in January 2017, security officials arrested more than 100 student activists. Many of these students have been sentenced to prison after being tried.
