The head of the Khuzestan Agricultural Jihad Organization says that the total damages caused by drought and water stress in Khuzestan have so far exceeded 12.6 trillion tomans.
Khodar Rahma Amirizadeh said on Sunday, August 22, that the amount of damage caused by drought to the agricultural sector in Khuzestan Province as of July 21 was 320,000 hectares, and that this amount of autumn crops suffered severe damage and production loss, and we had a loss of 300,000 tons.
He stated: "115 heads of heavy livestock and 500 heads of light livestock have also been lost. "Ultimately, the total damages caused by drought and water stress in Khuzestan have so far exceeded 12.6 trillion tomans."
Khalil Maniat, director of the Shadegan Agricultural Jihad, also announced on Sunday that due to the water stress we are currently facing, about 7,500 palm trees have been lost in Shadegan, and if the water supply conditions are not suitable, it must be said that all of Shadegan's palm trees are at risk of destruction.
He said that there are currently more than two million and 500 thousand palm trees in Shadegan, which are at risk of destruction due to drought and water stress conditions.
According to Mr. Maniat, all the palm trees that were planted this year to develop palm trees in the city have dried up and died due to water stress. The area of these palm trees was about 150 hectares, which were destroyed due to the lack of water.
Over the past 11 days, Khuzestan Province has been the scene of widespread public protests against water shortages, which have been met with widespread repression by security forces and internet shutdowns in the region.
