More than 20 refugees drown in Tunisian coastal waters

Tunisia's defense ministry says more than 20 migrants have died after a boat sank off the country's coast. Searches are continuing in the Mediterranean to find other victims.

A Tunisian Defense Ministry spokesman announced on Thursday (December 24) that more than 20 refugees died when a boat sank off the country's coast, and rescuers were able to recover their bodies from the water.

According to this report, 5 of the victims have been rescued so far.

Efforts are continuing in the Mediterranean Sea to find other victims, most of whom are from sub-Saharan Africa.

Since the coast of Tunisia is not far from southern Europe, with other routes closed, refugees are increasingly using this dangerous route to reach Europe.

Due to the severe economic crisis in Tunisia and widespread unemployment, many residents of this country are also choosing to emigrate.
