Raisi's order to the Minister of Interior following Mahsa Amini's brain death

Three days after Mahsa Amini's brain death in Ershad police custody, the Iranian President ordered the Interior Minister to look into the matter on Friday, September 15.

According to Iranian domestic media reports, following the order of Ebrahim Raisi, the Interior Minister has appointed his deputy for security and law enforcement to handle this case.

Mahsa [Zina] Amini, a 22-year-old girl who had come to Tehran from Saqqez with her family to visit relatives, fell into a coma after being arrested by the Ershad patrol and transferred to the Vazra detention center on Wednesday, September 13, as a result of being beaten by "law enforcement officers."

The publication of Ms. Amini's picture on a hospital bed on social media, in addition to the widespread reaction of social media users, has so far led to the reaction of well-known domestic and foreign figures to this issue and the violent treatment of women over the mandatory hijab in Iran.

In the latest reactions, Asghar Farhadi, a well-known Iranian cinema director, wrote in an Instagram post: "I've been restless since I read your news yesterday. I'm disgusted, this time with myself. You're lying on a hospital bed, but you're the most awake, and we're all in a coma."

He added: "We have lulled ourselves to sleep in the face of this endless cruelty. We are complicit in this crime."

Former MP Mahmoud Sadeghi also wrote in a Twitter post on Friday: "What does the Supreme Leader of the Revolution, who rightly condemned the American police in the death of George Floyd, say about the treatment of Mahsa Amini by the Iranian police?"

American journalist Eli Cohanim also reacted to the news of Mahsa Amini's brain death in a post on Twitter, calling for "justice for Mahsa and an end to the oppressive regime."

Meanwhile, Ms. Amini's uncle said in an interview with Etemad Online on Friday: "There is no longer any hope for Mahsa's survival."

He continued by criticizing the way the issue of hijab is being handled in the country, adding: "We have not been apologized to at all."

Mahsa Amini's uncle continued: "We lost the plane. We lost the elite and we are still losing them; is this due to incompetence and incompetence or not? Our country has been questioned, our people have been questioned, if the people are competent, why should the government do this?"

He continued by calling the news of his niece's "congenital heart disease" an "absolute lie" and said: "It is even conceivable that she had a disease. Shouldn't we take care of such a person? That is worse."

Mahsa Amini's mother said in an interview with Radio Farda that her daughter was "completely healthy and cheerful" before her arrest.

According to Mahsa Amini's uncle, her parents have filed a complaint about the incident.

In recent months, pressure has increased regarding the mandatory hijab in Iran, and numerous videos of violence against citizens by law enforcement officers and religious guidance patrols have been published on social media due to their coverage.
