Dozens of lawyers and civil activists demanded the annulment of the separation order of a two-year-old child from a Christian couple.

In a letter to the head of Iran's judiciary, dozens of lawyers and civil activists described the Bushehr court's ruling to separate a two-year-old child from a Christian convert couple and deny him the right to adopt as a violation of numerous constitutional principles.
The letter from 121 lawyers and civil activists was published on Wednesday, October 13, in Borna News Agency and deals with the case of Lydia, a 22-month-old child who has been under the care of Maryam Fallahi and Sam Khosravi since she was ten weeks old, but at the request of the Welfare Organization, the Bushehr Court has ruled to revoke her care.
This letter refers to the twelfth and thirteenth principles of the Constitution and states that those who are among the divine religions specified in the Constitution should not have any restrictions on requesting and requesting guardianship.
According to the signatories of the letter, the legislator has specified in the laws related to child custody that Iranian citizens who meet the requirements in terms of financial means and moral health can apply to the Welfare Department and request guardianship, and nowhere in these laws and regulations is there any mention of the type of religion or creed of the applicants.
The letter also refers to Lydia's health condition, stating that she has a severe heart condition and that the Bushehr court has ruled to revoke the guardianship without considering the jurisprudential rules, religious and human commonalities, and the best interests and health of this child.
The letter ultimately calls on Ebrahim Raisi, the head of Iran's judiciary, to immediately issue the necessary orders to stop the execution of the Bushehr court's verdict.
