Nasrin Sotoudeh praises the resistance in Ukraine: This war is a battle between democracy and dictatorship

On Monday, Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer and human rights activist, published a letter from prison, calling what is happening in Ukraine a "battle between democracy and dictatorship" and praising the Ukrainian people for their resistance to Russia's military invasion.
In this letter, addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms. Sotoudeh called for international assistance to the people of Ukraine, who "do not want to be quietly crushed under the boots of the aggressors."
The human rights activist wrote: "As a woman who has lived in a country that has been directly involved in war for 8 years, I can imagine the horror of war and naked violence against defenseless people, and I express to you my horror at such reckless aggression."
Ms. Sotoudeh continued: "This war is a battle between democracy and dictatorship, but fortunately the Ukrainian people are not alone in this battle, and the world has rushed to Ukraine's aid with great concern."
Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, which took place despite repeated warnings from Western leaders, has isolated Moscow internationally. Russia has faced widespread global sanctions that are crippling its economy as it attempts to seize the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. On the other hand, contrary to expectations, the Russian advance towards Kiev and other major Ukrainian cities has not been easy and has met with fierce resistance from Ukrainians.
Nasrin Sotoudeh wrote in her letter: "Like millions of people around the world, I am horrified by this brazen aggression, and in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and standing with them, I declare that world peace is meaningless without standing against Russian military aggression and supporting Ukraine."
He finally called on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to use "all international capacities to put an end to this blatant aggression."
Nasrin Sotoudeh, who has been in prison since June 13, 2018, has been sentenced to 33 years in prison and 148 lashes on various political charges.
