Saba Kord Afshari was threatened in prison

The human rights website "HRANA" cites an informed source as saying that Saba Kord Afshari, a civil activist and opponent of compulsory hijab, who returned to Qarchak Prison in Varamin on Saturday, September 26, at the end of her leave, has been threatened and harassed.

An informed source told HRANA that in the past week, two prisoners from Ward 6 of Qarchak Prison in Varamin who had a history of harassing and threatening other prisoners were transferred to another location due to protests from the residents of the ward. However, on Sunday, September 4, one of these prisoners threatened Ms. Kord Afshari with a razor in front of Ward 6.

The source said, "It seems that this incident was provoked by prison officials because Ms. Kord Afshari is the only resident of the ward, and their transfer outside the ward was carried out after a number of prisoners complained."

According to HRANA, failure to observe the principle of separation of crimes and the authorities' disregard for the security and health of prisoners are among the reasons for such incidents.

Saba Kord Afshari, born in 1998, was initially sentenced to a total of 24 years in prison by the Revolutionary Court. However, this sentence was reduced to 7 years and 6 months in prison by the Court of Appeal in March of last year. The civil activist was transferred from Evin Prison to Qarchak Prison in Varamin in December 2020.
