Ali Khamenei: "The country's decision to negotiate has been well done in the first steps"

Addressing the three branches of government, Ali Khamenei said: "The country's decision to negotiate in the first steps has been well done."

Three days after the first round of negotiations between Abbas Araqchi and Steve Whittock, representatives of Iran and the United States, in Oman, Ali Khamenei met with the senior leaders of the three powers on Tuesday, April 15. In this meeting, he said about the negotiations on a nuclear program with the United States, noting that we should not be overly optimistic or pessimistic, and said: "The mistake that was made in the JCPOA and made everything dependent on the progress of the negotiations should not be repeated, because the country becomes conditional and everything, including investment, is put on hold until the outcome of the negotiations is clear."

"The country's activities to achieve its goals in all areas must continue with greater urgency, and nothing should be tied to the results of the negotiations. Lifting sanctions is not in our hands, but neutralizing them is in our hands, and there are many ways and appropriate domestic capacities for this, and if this goal is achieved, the country will become invulnerable to sanctions."

He also said about the Iran-US talks in Oman: "The country's decision to negotiate has been well-taken in the first steps. After this, we must proceed carefully, while the red lines are completely clear for us and for the other side. The talks may or may not be successful, and we are neither very optimistic nor very pessimistic about these talks. Of course, we are very pessimistic about the other side, but we are optimistic about our own capabilities."
