Issa Sharifi, Qalibaf's deputy in Tehran Municipality, sentenced to 20 years in prison

The verdict issued by the military court for the four defendants of Yas Holding Company was confirmed by the Supreme Court. Issa Sharifi, the second defendant in the case, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and to repay the amounts received.

The Supreme Court upheld the 20-year prison sentence for Issa Sharifi, who was sentenced by a military court. According to the ruling, the former deputy mayor of Tehran during Qalibaf's time must also return the funds he received.

Issa Sharifi was Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf's deputy mayor for 12 years. Prior to this position, Sharifi was a commander in the Revolutionary Guards, and his corruption case was investigated on Khamenei's orders in 2018.

Mohsen Hashemi, the head of Tehran City Council, announced in July 2018 that, by order of Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Hossein Bagheri, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, has been made responsible for investigating the case of Issa Sharifi's alleged "financial corruption worth ten trillion tomans."

Issa Sharifi was arrested in September 2017. His corruption case was related to Yas Financial Holding, an economic subsidiary of the Revolutionary Guards Cooperative Foundation. The “Rasa Tejarat” company is also a subsidiary of this holding. Yas Holding was dissolved after numerous corruption cases were exposed.

In a ruling confirmed by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, March 17, four defendants in the Yas Economic Group case were sentenced to two to 30 years in prison for participating in gang fraud, participating in money laundering, and illegally withdrawing and misappropriating funds.
