Lavrov: We received written guarantees from the US within the framework of the JCPOA

At a press conference between the Russian and Iranian foreign ministers, Lavrov said that his country had received written assurances from the United States within the framework of the JCPOA. A US official said that this assurance was for Russia's participation in Iran's nuclear projects within the framework of the JCPOA.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian traveled to Moscow on Tuesday, March 15, and met and held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Following this meeting, Lavrov said in a joint press conference that Moscow had received written assurances from the United States that new sanctions against Russia would not prevent cooperation within the framework of the Iran nuclear deal.
The AFP news agency quoted Lavrov as saying that the guarantees received from Washington protect Russia's role in the construction of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran.
According to Bloomberg News, the United States has given Russia written assurances that sanctions imposed on Moscow over Russia's invasion of Ukraine will not affect nuclear supply agreements with Iran, paving the way for the resumption of negotiations to revive the JCPOA.
Lavrov said these guarantees provide reliable protection for all projects and activities envisaged in the nuclear deal.
The US government, which has recalled its negotiating team from Vienna for consultations, has not yet officially confirmed this statement.
US official: Russian sanctions have nothing to do with JCPOA
A senior US State Department official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters that the United States continues to work with Russia to revive the JCPOA.
The American official added that Moscow can now understand that the sanctions imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine will not affect the implementation of the JCPOA.
A senior US State Department official has said that Washington will not sanction Russia's participation in nuclear projects that are part of the JCPOA agreement, provided that the JCPOA is fully implemented.
According to Reuters, he emphasized that Washington cannot give Russia any guarantees beyond this.
A senior US State Department official has stated: "It may now be clear to Moscow, as we have said publicly, that the new sanctions related to Russia have no connection to the JCPOA and should not affect its implementation."
