Joint naval exercise between Iran, China and Russia begins

Iran, China, and Russia began their joint naval exercise in the Indian Ocean on Friday, February 2. The exercise will last three days.
The AFP reported that on Friday, January 21, a joint naval exercise between Iran, Russia, and China began in the waters of the Indian Ocean.
According to the report, Tehran announced that 11 naval units and three units from the Revolutionary Guards are participating in the exercise. Three units from Russia and two units from the Chinese navy are also participating in the three-day exercise.
The exercise will be held in an area of 17,000 square kilometers. At the end of 2019, the three countries also held another joint naval exercise in the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean.
Rear Admiral Mostafa Tajeddini, spokesman for the exercise, told Mashreq News Agency that this is the third joint exercise to be held with the participation of Iran, China, and Russia, and will continue in the future. The military commander declared the message of the exercise to be “peace and friendship.”
The joint Iran-Russia-China military exercise is taking place while Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is in Russia. At the same time, China and Russia, along with Germany, Britain and France, are in Vienna to discuss with Iran a return to the nuclear deal.
