Mike Pompeo: The world should know that no sanctions prevent the shipment of medicine and medical equipment to Iran

On Wednesday, April 10, the US Secretary of State reiterated that the sanctions imposed by the US against the Islamic Republic are not an obstacle to sending medicine and medical equipment to Iran.

In a press conference at the White House, Mike Pompeo said in response to a question about this: "The world should know that there are no sanctions preventing the shipment of medicine and medical equipment to Iran."

He said, "From the very first day that the new coronavirus struck the people of Iran, we offered to help, we offered to provide humanitarian aid, but unfortunately they decided not to accept it."

The US Secretary of State added, "I have heard some talk about sanctions, but the world should know that there are no sanctions to block the shipment of medicine, medical equipment, and humanitarian aid to Iran."

On the evening of Monday, April 6, the US State Department Spokesperson's Office released a statement, referring to the Islamic Republic regime's influence campaign and its recent activities to lift sanctions, and explaining the reasons for the necessity of maintaining and continuing the sanctions imposed on Iran.

The statement reads: “The Iranian [regime]’s covert and silent foreign influence campaign to lift sanctions is not aimed at the well-being and well-being of the Iranian people, but rather at providing money for its terrorist activities.”
