Death of the second injured student in the Dezful Connexion School fire

With the death of another student who was seriously injured in the fire at Kanexi School in Dezful, the number of victims of the incident has reached two.

According to IRNA news agency, on the evening of February 28, Amin Eliasi, 15, another student who suffered burns in the incident, died from the severity of his injuries.

Nima Hemmati Chalgerd, another 15-year-old student who suffered 50 percent burns in the fire incident, lost her life on February 27.

On the evening of January 20, a fire broke out at a school compound in the Sardasht area of Dezful, causing severe burns to three teachers living in the compound and three residents of the area, including two students.

Previously, the cause of the incident was said to be a lightning strike on the Kanexi school, but the Director General of Khuzestan's Crisis Management announced that the incident was likely caused by a gas cylinder explosion.

On Wednesday, the Sardasht district governor described the general condition of all the injured in the incident as unfavorable, and said that one of the injured teachers was transferred to a hospital in Isfahan with more than 80 percent burns.

Ali Abdullahi Shahabadi also said: "If the rural roads in this area were improved or asphalted, the process of providing relief to the injured in this incident would be smoother and they would be transferred to medical centers sooner."

The insecurity of the heating system in many schools in the country has been one of the major challenges for the Iranian Ministry of Education in recent years.

The Deputy Minister of Education and Head of the Iranian School Renovation Organization announced in 2018 that the heating systems of 136,000 classrooms in the country "do not meet the required standards."

Mehrollah Rakhshani Mehr stated that the main reason for this was the lack of city gas, especially in areas such as Sistan and Baluchestan province.

In recent years, several fire incidents due to unsafe heating systems in winter have caused the deaths and injuries of students and teachers in various parts of Iran.

On December 5, 2012, a kerosene heater caught fire in a girls' elementary school in the village of Shinabad, Piranshahr. 37 children were injured and two of the girls died from severe burns.
