An analysis of statistics on the presence of clergy members in the first through ninth parliaments shows that in each parliamentary session, the presence of clergy members has experienced a significant decline compared to the previous parliament. These statistics indicate a sharp distancing by the people and their unwillingness to elect clergy members in parliamentary elections. In the Islamic Republic, clergy members no longer enjoy the popularity they once had.
