Prisoners of Ward 8 of Evin Prison are concerned about the spread of the coronavirus

Prisoners in Evin Ward 8 have issued a statement warning authorities about the risk of a widespread spread of coronavirus in the prison. There is talk of the possibility of at least two prisoners and three prison staff members being infected. Bektash Abtin has been transferred back to prison.

A group of prisoners in Ward 8 of Evin Prison have issued a statement calling on the Islamic Republic's officials to seriously address the situation in the prisons.

The main topic of this statement is the prisoners' extreme concern about the spread of the coronavirus in this section of Evin Prison.

The statement reads, among other things: "The fourth wave of the coronavirus has begun in prisons, as it has throughout the country, and its initial symptoms have already been observed in Ward 8 of Evin Prison, with at least two prisoners and three prison staff members infected."

Another part of the statement refers to the re-transfer of political prisoner Bektash Abtin to Ward 8. It is said that this political prisoner, who had contracted the coronavirus, was transferred back to prison before receiving treatment.

Prisoners in Ward 8 of Evin Prison called the transfer of this prisoner to a 300-person ward before he was fully treated an irresponsible act that could both threaten his health and cause the virus to be transmitted to other prisoners.

Another part of the statement states: "We, the prisoners, including political, financial, etc., and even foreign nationals, in Ward 8 of Evin Prison, in light of the dangerous situation that has arisen and in line with the strict orders of the Coronavirus Task Force, which has banned any gathering, insist on the need to immediately grant special coronavirus leave to all prisoners."

It should be noted that Maryam Yavari, Bektash Abtin's wife, announced on her Instagram account last week that her husband had contracted the coronavirus.

In their statement, prisoners in Ward 8 of Evin Prison have urged the authorities: "Before we witness another unfortunate incident in the prison, it is necessary for the judiciary authorities to take action to improve the dangerous conditions that have been mentioned."
