The number of coronavirus deaths in Iran has exceeded 100,000.

In the past 24 hours, 564 new deaths from the coronavirus were recorded in Iran. The total number of deaths from the coronavirus in Iran has now exceeded 100,000. According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University, Iran is the fourth most affected country in the world by the coronavirus.
The Public Relations and Information Center of the Ministry of Health of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced on Thursday, August 19, that 564 patients infected with the coronavirus died in the past 24 hours. With this, the total number of deaths from the coronavirus has crossed the 100,000 mark.
The Ministry of Health also announced that the total number of vaccines administered in the country has now reached 21,490,705 doses. This figure includes the first and second doses of the coronavirus vaccine.
This is despite the fact that more than 4.84 billion doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered worldwide.
Public vaccination in Iran is progressing slowly, an issue that has caused concern among the leaders of the Islamic Republic.
On Wednesday, August 11, Leader of the Islamic Republic Ali Khamenei acknowledged in a televised message: "The loss of more than 500 lives in one day and the grief of their families, the illness of tens of thousands of people and their medical problems are truly very painful."
Khamenei called for widespread supply of vaccines in any form possible, even though he had banned the import of American and British vaccines in a televised speech seven months ago.
With Khamenei banning the import of American and British vaccines, the supply of coronavirus vaccines to Iranian citizens has become difficult. According to a report by Johns Hopkins University, Iran is the fourth country in the world with the most coronavirus cases after the United States, India, and Brazil.
In the past 24 hours, 31,266 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Iran, of which 4,603 were hospitalized.
Seven thousand,538 patients with COVID-19 are being cared for in hospital intensive care units.
Including new patients, the total number of coronavirus cases in Iran has reached four million, 587,683.
Currently, 359 cities in the country are in red status, 59 cities are in orange status, and 30 cities are in yellow status.
