After Mohammad Nourizad's return to prison, Ali Nourizad was released "on parole"

After the return of Mohammad Nourizad, one of the signatories of the letter calling for Ayatollah Khamenei's resignation, to Evin Prison, a human rights website announced the release of Ali Nourizad, the son of this political prisoner.

The news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, HRANA, announced this news and wrote that Ali Nourizad, one of the detainees of the nationwide protests of January 2019, was released from Evin Prison on Tuesday, February 25.

According to HRANA, Mr. Nourizad's release was conditional and took place after serving 17 months of his sentence.

Before returning to Evin Prison, Mohammad Nourizad told VOA in an exclusive interview that he had not been able to hug his son Ali Nourizad for two years. "They arranged the leave in such a way that if he was outside, I would be in prison, and if I was outside, he would be in prison, and if I went to prison, they would probably release Ali," he said.

On Tuesday, May 2, 2020, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, headed by Iman Afshari, sentenced Ali Nourizad to 4 years and 2 months in prison and 2 years of disqualification from membership in political parties and groups by charges such as “gathering and colluding with the intention of committing a crime against national security by participating in the January 2019 rallies,” “propaganda activity against the system,” and “insulting the leadership.” A sentence that, based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, which allows for the accumulation of sentences, only 3 years and 6 months of it could be enforced as the most severe punishment.
