Forty-one days of hunger strike in protest of Bektash Abtin's death; two political prisoners transferred to hospital

Hamid Hajjafarkashani and Mohammad Abolhasani were transferred to the Greater Tehran Prison's infirmary on the 41st day of their hunger strike due to a severe drop in blood pressure.

These two are among the political prisoners who have gone on a hunger strike following the death of Bektash Abiten.

Bektash Abtin, who was hospitalized in mid-December after his symptoms worsened, died in the hospital on Saturday, January 8. His death drew widespread criticism from Iran's judicial and security apparatus.
About ten days after Mr. Abtin's death, a number of political prisoners in Qarchak, Varamin, Greater Tehran, and Evin prisons went on a hunger strike.

Their goal in the hunger strike is "to deal properly and deterrently with those responsible for the killing of Bektash Abtin and all prisoners who lost their lives as a result of torture and the irresponsibility of prison staff."

Shakila Monfared, Sina Beheshti, Saeed Tamjidi, Hamid Haj Jafar Kashani, and Mohammad Abolhasani, five political prisoners in Qarchak, Varamin, and Greater Tehran prisons, have begun a hunger strike and their physical condition is reported to be critical.

Previously, more than 650 civil and political activists inside and outside Iran wrote an open letter addressed to five political prisoners who are on hunger strike, calling on them to end their hunger strike to save their lives.
