Corona; "One death every 7 minutes" in Iran, "secret" use of imported pills by officials

While Iranian Ministry of Health officials are reporting that the third wave of the coronavirus in Iran is more severe, that one citizen is dying "every 7 minutes," and that the situation in the capital is worrying, Mahmoud Sadeghi, a representative of Tehran in the 10th Parliament, is reporting that pills imported from China have been "secretly" allocated to officials in the Islamic Republic.

Mahmoud Sadeghi, a Tehran representative in the 10th Parliament, said in an interview with ILNA news agency on Sunday, October 26: "At the end of the 10th Parliament, 20,000 Favipiravir tablets were secretly imported from China, and a large number were used to treat officials."

He added: "These pills were supposed to be made available to hospitals for clinical trials and manufacturing licenses were granted, but unfortunately it was not clear what happened to them."

Mr. Sadeghi, noting that "in my opinion, such prioritizations do not exist in any country," added: "It is surprising that representatives of the people, especially representatives whose slogans for justice have deafened the ears of the world, want to distance themselves from the people in this way."

On the same day, Iraj Harirchi, Deputy Minister of Health, announced that "in the third wave of Corona, the number of infected and hospitalized people has been reported to be much higher than in the first and second waves, in such a way that the names of the provinces of Tehran and Qom are eye-catching."

In an interview with the second channel of the state-run Islamic Republic Television, he continued: "The number of deaths in some provinces is unprecedented and much higher than previous figures, and based on last week's statistics, an average of one person dies every 7 minutes due to coronavirus, which is not at all appropriate for our country."

Iraj Harirchi said that the one-week closure of schools and universities could be extended, and that closures for shopkeepers and some offices would be possible at the discretion of the National Headquarters for Combating Coronavirus.

Mr. Harirchi described the situation in Tehran as "worrying," and a day before him, Alireza Zali, head of the coronavirus response headquarters in Tehran, said that the Iranian capital was in a "completely critical and dangerous situation" and that one-week restrictions should be imposed.

In another comment, Nahid Khodakarami, head of the Tehran City Council Health Committee, announced that 12,000 people in the capital have died due to coronavirus.

According to Fars News Agency, he emphasized that "the death toll from this disease continues to rise," saying: "The number of deaths has reached 90 during the day."

The possibility of schools closing again is being announced while Majid Hadavand, Deputy Director of Educational Planning and Rehabilitation at the Special Education Organization, said in an interview with ILNA News Agency on Sunday that more than 40 percent of students with special needs do not have access to the online education network, "Shabeke Shad".

He explained that one group of these students does not have access to the internet, another group does not have mobile phones, and another group is a group of students with disabilities who cannot operate in cyberspace.
