Coronavirus in Iran: 50 infected every hour and one death every 10 minutes

According to Kianoush Jahanpour, the latest data on the coronavirus epidemic in Iran indicates that 50 people are infected with the disease every hour and one patient dies every 10 minutes. The real figure is even higher.
Kianoush Jahanpour, head of the Public Relations and Information Center of the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, wrote on his Twitter account on Thursday, March 19, about the latest statistics on patients infected with the coronavirus in Iran: "Every hour, 50 people in Iran are infected with COVID-19, and every ten minutes, one person loses their life due to the consequences of contracting the coronavirus."
The IRNA news agency, citing the official, advised people to make “informed” decisions about Nowruz trips and visits. According to the agency’s statistics, as of Wednesday, March 18, 17,361 people in Iran had been “definitely” infected with the coronavirus. Of these, 1,135 have died and 5,710 have recovered.
This is despite the fact that on the same day (Wednesday), Iraj Harirchi, Deputy Minister of Health in the Rouhani government, had said: "The coronavirus kills three people in Iran every hour and infects 43 people."
According to him, people's failure to heed doctors' advice and attending gatherings is "the main factor in the spread of the coronavirus in society, and people should not cause the death of their fellow citizens by attending crowded places."
Furthermore, some people are also unwilling to listen to doctors' advice and refrain from traveling to other cities or attending gatherings. An example is the celebration of Chaharshanbe Suri on the one hand and the attack by a group of extremists on Shiite pilgrimage sites in Mashhad and Qom on the other.
On Thursday, a meeting of the heads of the three branches of the Islamic Republic was also held at the office of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. The meeting was attended by Health Minister Saeed Namaki, Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, Roads and Urban Development Minister Mohammad Eslami, Vice President for Economic Affairs Mohammad Nahavandian, Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari, and Chief of Staff of Rouhani Mahmoud Vaezi as heads of the main committees of the National Headquarters for Combating Corona.
IRNA has not published any news about the decisions of this meeting.
