Coronavirus in Mashhad; 101 children have died at Akbar Hospital

Since March of last year, 1,179 children have been hospitalized in the Khorasan Province COVID-19 Center, 101 of whom have died. The head of the intensive care unit at Mashhad's Akbar Hospital says that children account for three percent of deaths in Khorasan Razavi.
Gholamreza Khademi, head of the Corona ICU department of Akbar Hospital in Mashhad, announced the death of 101 children in Khorasan Razavi in the past year due to COVID-19.
He announced that the coronavirus mortality rate in children was about three percent of all hospitalizations in Khorasan Razavi, adding: "Death in children occurs for two reasons; the first cause is cardiovascular complications, and the second cause of death in children is underlying disease."
These statistics were presented at a roundtable discussion held by the Mashhad Medical System Organization entitled "Investigating the Resurgence of Corona and the Emergence of New Strains of the Virus."
ISNA news agency quoted Khademi as saying: "In the first peak, most children aged five to 10 were infected with the coronavirus, which has been the case all over the world, and in late November, when the mortality peaked, infants were infected with the respiratory coronavirus."
The head of the intensive care unit at Akbar Hospital complained about the inefficiency of the health department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in educating the public, saying: "I wish there were cars on the streets that would give the necessary warnings to the public with loudspeakers. In our country, this training is not provided, and to prevent the coronavirus, we only emphasize the media, including television, and observing social and respiratory distance."
Gholamreza Khademi added that physical, administrative, and command-based interventions are not very effective in preventing the spread of the coronavirus, and that people need to be practically educated to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Emphasizing that vaccination is not performed on children, he noted that more than 60% of virus transmission to pediatricians at the University of Medical Sciences is through contact with children.
Meanwhile, in the latest announcement, the Center for Infectious Disease Management of the Iranian Ministry of Health announced the provision of 120 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine in the next year and the vaccination of about 60 million people.
Simasadat Lari, a spokesman for the ministry, also said that 61 people have died from coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 58,684.
