"20 percent" of Tehran supermarkets have closed due to high prices

The head of the Tehran Supermarket and Protein Products Union says that economic conditions have caused between 15 and 20 percent of Tehran's supermarkets to close their stores or change jobs.
Saeed Derakhshani told Rokna News Agency that the closure of supermarkets occurred due to a number of reasons, including rising prices of consumer goods, declining purchasing power, low sales, increased taxes, and high rents.
The head of the Tehran Supermarket Union says that if the price increase trend continues and people's purchasing power decreases accordingly, many trade union activities in this field will undoubtedly be closed.
Previously, Ghasem Ali Hassani, secretary of the Food Bankers' Union, told ILNA news agency on September 25 that the prices of staple foods in Iran have increased by between 30 and 90 percent since the beginning of this year.
