10-Year Prison Sentence Issued for “Fahim Agahi” and Solitary Confinement for “Sirar Moqin,” Bahá’í Citizens

Shortly after a heavy sentence was issued against a Bahá’í citizen in Tehran, the case of another Bahá’í citizen in Isfahan remains in the detention and interrogation phase. Fahim Agahi, a Bahá’í citizen residing in Tehran, has been sentenced by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolqasem Salwati, to a total of 10 years imprisonment, a monetary fine, confiscation of assets, and social deprivation. Simultaneously, Sirar Moqin, a Bahá’í citizen residing in Isfahan and a student at a university in China, after 35 days of detention, continues to be held in solitary confinement at Dowlatabad Prison, and his detention order has been extended for another month.

According to reports from “Hengaw” and “Iran Wire,” Fahim Agahi has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for “propaganda activities contrary to sacred Islamic law” and an additional five years imprisonment for “membership in organizations and associations opposing the system.” Upon application of the law of concurrent sentences, five years of this total sentence will be enforceable. In addition to imprisonment, the court sentenced him to paying 80 million tomans in fines, two years of deprivation from activity in cyberspace and media, two years of deprivation from membership in political parties and social groups, and two years of prohibition from leaving the country. The court also issued an order for confiscation of assets and items seized during the home search.

In this case, Agahi’s professional activity in computer programming was also cited during the judicial process as part of the evidence. He was arrested on October 19, 2025, during a security raid on his family home in Tehran, and after a search of the house and seizure of some personal items, he was released pending bail until the completion of legal proceedings.

In Isfahan, however, the situation of Sirar Moqin remains unclear. This Bahá’í citizen was arrested on August 25, 2026, following a raid by the Ministry of Intelligence on his family home and was transferred to Dowlatabad Prison. According to published reports, during the home search, officials seized personal and electronic items, cash, gold, and even the family’s piano.

Meanwhile, the seizure of cash, gold, and even the family piano during the home search has raised serious questions about the fate of the confiscated assets and the legal basis for these actions. If these items have no connection to the charges against Sirar Moqin, it is unclear what justification would require a family to endure not only the detention and uncertainty about the fate of their loved one but also the loss of their property and personal household items. The continued lack of information about the fate of these assets, combined with Moqin’s deprivation of legal counsel, contact with family, and medical attention, has made the dimensions of this case increasingly troubling.

Now, after 35 days, Moqin continues to be held in solitary confinement and interrogation continues. According to sources close to the family, his detention order has been extended for another month, and the family was informed of this decision through prison officials and after repeated follow-ups. Meanwhile, formal charges against him have not been announced.

Reports also indicate that Moqin has been deprived of telephone contact with his family and access to a lawyer during this period and has had only one brief visit with his family. He suffers from a gastrointestinal disorder, and human rights sources have expressed concern about his continued detention in solitary confinement without adequate access to medical care.

In both cases, available information has been primarily released by human rights organizations and media outlets and sources close to the families, while the judicial authorities of the Islamic Republic have not yet issued formal and independent explanations regarding the details of the charges against Sirar Moqin or his physical condition. The case of Fahim Agahi has now entered the sentencing phase, while the case of Sirar Moqin remains in the detention and interrogation phase.
